Floridays

Today was the first official day in the pool for 2005. It's only official when I go in. The water was only 75 degrees, which is a bit on the cool side for my Floridian blood, but after a bit of work in the yard I was definitely in the mood for a dip.

The boys of course are always up for it. Technically, it wasn't their first swim of the year as they had managed a couple of "unofficial" swims in January and February when the pool was in the low 60's. In my opinion, this type of swimming is only possible by small boys who have the unique combination of a fun-loving spirit and immature testicles.

Eli somehow forgot how to swim during the winter and Aaron remembered that he doesn't think he can (he can), so the pool season got off to an inauspicious start with much use of floatation devices.

As the first official Pool Day, it was also the debut of my new foam floating lounge chair that was purchased at Costco over the winter by my professional money-spender. A near fatal flaw with the device was quickly discovered as there was no obvious location for one to place his beverage. As the thing is made of foam, I do not think this critical feature will remain absent for long.

With ribs on the grill for dinner tonight, it was a glorious day that made one thankful for the ability to live in paradise. However, I suspect that the first day of air-conditioning is not far off. We fancy ourselves naturalists and occasionally try to live like our forebears who didn't have such luxuries. Air-Conditioning Day has officially arrived when I demand that the thing be turned on before I kill everyone in the house.
