Home Depot Kids Workshop

On the first Saturday of every month at 10am Home Depot has a Kids Workshop at every store. They have little projects for the kids to build like birdhouses and whatnot using pre-cut wood and simple tools. Eli and I have been to a few of these and really enjoyed them. This weekend was Aaron's first.

While geared toward kids 5-12, mine are real adept with the tools and get along pretty well. For the most part, anyway. We still seem to get more than our share of hammered fingers, or heads in Aaron's case.



These workshops are a real smart move on HD's part. They probably cost a pretty penny what with all the free kid-sized orange aprons, the project kits, their employees' time, and the liability. But my guess would be that they're writing it off as "community service", and in the process building a horde of future Home Depot loyalists who remember spending quality time there with Dad. They probably even see a decent sales boost from parents "just picking something up" while they're there.
